Research shows that children learn in a much easier way if the information is presented both visually and verbally. Other studies show that the best results are achieved using visual media, because we acquire 75% of knowledge through sight. If we add the 13% that we acquire through the sense of hearing, it′s clear that the most efficient way to teach a foreign language is combining the audio and video media (see the diagram).

So this is the reason why children can easily memorize contents they see on TV or effortlessly master video games, and on the other hand quickly forget the lessons they learn in school. Another factor that plays an important role in the new multimedia approach to teaching and learning foreign languages is the interactivity between the cause and the consequence. This way the children actively use the parts of the brain that wouldn′t be involved in the passive process of hearing and seeing the lecture.

The diagram shows the percentage of information we acquire through each sense
